Q. Can you tell me what is wrong with my car over the phone?
A. Cars these days are electronic marvels. To properly diagnose a problem, it often requires specialized equipment and procedures. While we may be able to offer possible causes for your symptoms, we cannot offer any certainty without having the car in the shop.
Q. What is your policy on customer supplied parts?
A. As a professional service facility, we are responsible for providing the right parts to service your SAAB. Parts may be OEM (original equipment manufacturer) or aftermarket. Some aftermarket parts are equivalent to OEM, while others are inferior. Through years of experience, we know what parts are best for your SAAB. While we recognize the age of the internet makes shopping for parts available to anyone, we cannot warranty the labor or parts for customer supplied parts. Through previous experience, we have decided not to accept customer supplied parts for installation. You may ask to discuss your specific situation with Tom if you feel your situation warrants special consideration.
Q. How often should I have my car serviced?
A. Refer to your owner’s manual for scheduled services. Each model and year is different. As for oil changes, we recommend an interval of 3,000 miles for regular oil and 5,000 miles for synthetic lubricants. Your owner’s manual may stipulate a different interval, but we note the harsh driving conditions of the city as a consideration for a shorter interval. The oil change is the most important service you can perform on your SAAB.
Q. The salesman at the dealership where I purchased my new SAAB said that if I have you work on my car it will void my warranty. Is this true?
A. The dealership understandably wants to have your service business. The truth is that where you have service performed is up to you and does not adversely affect your warranty. You must keep good records of all oil changes and scheduled services preformed to maintain your warranty. As the owner of your SAAB, if you are so inclined, you can perform your own oil changes without loss of warranty. Just be sure records and receipts are carefully maintained in the event your SAAB needs a warranty repair.
Q. Do you work on any cars besides SAABs?
A. At one time we offered service to our customers’ other household vehicles, but we since realized that the best way to serve you is to provide what you can’t find anywhere else – superior service on your SAAB.
